Cc: Pray Culpeper team + Culpeper Ministerial Association members

Hi Baker,

Thanks for letting me know why you missed yesterday’s Pray Culpeper session. It was powerful. We missed you.

After yesterday’s prayer time, Pastor Brad Hales talked about the need for our local pastors to put this weekly gathering for prayer ahead of all other programs and ministries. Brad says this time of prayer is very uplifting for pastors. He says our community will be transformed when our pastors commit to coming together weekly to pray. He says praying together in the name of Jesus brings unity.

I am NOT available to attend the Pray Culpeper session on Sept 23 in person because I’ll be in Utah next week supporting my wife Julia as she prepares to compete in the Xterra National Triathlon Championships. However, I plan to be on my knees praying in Utah while the Pray Culpeper session is taking place on Wed Sept 23 at Noon. As I write this I am overcome with the presence of God.

Pastor Brad Hales, Pastor Howie Holmes (Providence Bible Church), Dewey McDonnell, and Jim Charapich (President, Culpeper Chamber of Commerce), all said yesterday after the Pray Culpeper session that they definitely want the weekly prayer time to continue every Noon on Wednesdays at Reformation Lutheran Church no matter what.

Our community prayer team looks forward to your participation at Pray Culpeper on Sept 23 at the Reformation Lutheran Church, 415 S Main Suite # 101, Culpeper, VA 22701.

Incidentally, Wednesday Sept 23 is a HUGE day spiritually. It marks the birth of the greatest prayer revival in the history of America. On Wednesday September 23, 1857, Jeremiah Lamphier held his first prayer meeting in a Reformation Church in New York City that launched the Fulton Street Revival. See http://yourdailyblessing.com/prayer-revival-in-america/

I encourage you to invite other pastors and people who have a heart for prayer and worship to join as well.

I’m sending a copy of this email to members of the Culpeper Ministerial Association so they can come and invite others with a heart for prayer and worship as well. I’ll posting it at the Pray Culpeper (www.prayculpeper.com) and Transformation Virginia (www.transformationvirginia.com) blogs to help get the word out. I’ll sending a seperate email to my emails lists for Your Daily Blessing, Pray Culpeper, and Transformation Virginia as well. God is going to get His word out for people around the world to pray as communities on Sept 23.

To God be the glory, now and forever.

Blessings for an extraordinary finish to an extraordinary year!

Randy

In 2007, Virginia and America’s first permanent English settlement (Jamestown) turned 400 years old. The Commonwealth of Virginia invited the WORLD to join us in commemorating America’s 400th anniversary. As the first permanent English settlement in America, Jamestown became the birthplace of our nation. The focus of the world turned toward Virginia in 2007. Queen Elizabeth visited Virginia to commerorate this historic event.

In April 1607, the settlers who arrived at Cape Henry in Virginia Beach fasted and prayed for 3 days before doing two things that are still blessing Virginia and America today. They planted a large cross and dedicated the land to Jesus Christ. 400 years later, on April 29, 2007, Christians from across America gathered to publically rededicate America to God.
What is Transformation?
Transformation is the process of changes that comes about when Jesus Christ is lifted up, the power of satan is cast down, and the eyes of the lost are opened so that they press into the Kingdom of God.

Transformation Virginia is a grass roots movement joining pastors and marketplace ministers to advance the Kingdom of God in Virginia.

What does transformation look like?
The atmosphere over a city is changed. Extraordinary miracles are common in the Marketplace and Church. People are prayer walking and blessing their own neighborhoods. This priority ensures our "heads in the clouds, feet on the ground." We will reclaim what Jesus has already redeemed with His blood.

What is God’s vision?
God’s vision is to transform our cities, our sub-cultures, societies, and institutions until the kingdoms (ethnos) of this world become the "Kingdoms of our God and His Christ!

Beware of paying attention or going back to what you once were, when God wants you to be something that you never have been. – Oswald Chambers

Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. (Isaiah 60:1)

How will you multiply this message through the web to bless Teen Mania?

On May 11-12, 2007, the same weekend America’s 400th Anniversary celebration was taking place in Jamestown Virginia, Battle Cry 2007 took place at the Nissan Pavilion in northern Virginia. About 15,000-20,000 youth and youth leaders showed up for this amazing event sponsored by Teen Mania Ministries [www.teenmania.com]. Ron Luce, the Founder and President of Teen Mania, challenged the youth of our nation to “Rise Up” and let their voices be heard to reclaim America for God. The fact that Battle Cry took place in northern Virginia is very significant because that area has been a spiritual stronghold of the enemy in Virginia. Be sure to visit today’s Link of the Day to see photos from Battle Cry 2007.

As I reflect back on what happened this past weekend at Battle Cry 2007, I’m in awe of how God has blessed the united prayers of our Pray Culpeper team. Not only did God multiply the number of Battle Cry tickets that Dewey McDonnell purchased from 40 to 400 to 800, but He then united the hearts of many of our local youth leaders to bring their youth to Battle Cry 2007, and He moved this event from Baltimore to Virginia, making it easier and cheaper for our local youth to attend.

God also gave Dewey the opportunity to display our nine-foot wide Pray Culpeper banner at the Nissan Pavilion and to get on stage with Ron Luce to share the 40-400-800 miracle in front of thousands of people live and to millions more through TV and the Internet.

In all honesty, I didn’t feel like driving from Culpeper to Northern Virginia on May 12 to attend the Battle Cry 2007 event. The main reason I went was to support and encourage Dewey. But God really touched my heart to bless and empower the youth around the world through what I experienced.

Because of my close relationship with Dewey through Pray Culpeper, he gave me a special credentials pass that allowed me to move about anywhere freely at Battle Cry 2007. Even though I’m not a youth leader, Dewey invited me to participate in the meeting led by Ron Luce and John Haas to equip the 800 or so youth leaders in attendance at Battle Cry 2007 to be more effective in their ministry. God blessed me with a seat at the very front. While John was teaching about the importance of a leader functioning both as a captain and a coach, I learned he is in charge of all the Teen Mania events that take place across America. After the meeting, the Holy Spirit prompted me to speak briefly to John and give him the Harvest Evangelism DVD with Transformation Hawaii on it.

Around 7:00 PM while I was sitting with Dewey, a 16 year old stranger from Maine came and sat next to me. He introduced himself and began sharing his testimony about how Teen Mania radically altered his life. I learned that his mother committed suicide when he was just 12. His father had been a busy businessman. When his mother died, this boy had two younger siblings, including a 2 year old sister. After the death of his mother, this boy felt hopeless and began cutting himself. Then God brought him to his first Teen Mania event at the age of 13 and he was saved. Since then he has been on five mission trips with Teen Mania Global Expeditions [www.globalexpeditions.com] to foreign countries. On one trip to China, God sat this teenager next to the Vice President of China, allowing him to share about the impact Jesus has had on his life. This was the most mature 16 year old I have ever met in my life. And because of Teen Mania he was red hot for Jesus.

Around 7:30 PM, Dewey and I went backstage to wait for Ron Luce to call Dewey forward to share the Pray Culpeper miracle. While we were waiting, John Haas came up to us and began talking. This gave me the opportunity to share with John how the voice of the LORD told me in 2006 that a spiritual tsunami was coming to Virginia in 2007 unlike the world had ever seen before. When I explained to John that God brought Battle Cry to Virginia to bless our state on the same weekend as America’s 400th Anniversary celebration in Jamestown, he was amazed.

Prayer Power
Most graciously, heavenly Father, thank You for bringing Battle Cry to Virginia on the same weekend that America celebrated the 400th Anniversary of Jamestown, the birthplace of our nation. Thank You for using Teen Mania to ignite a spiritual bon fire in Virginia. Thank You that Teen Mania has helped hundreds of thousands of teens across America acquire the fire for Jesus. Thank You for Ron Luce, John Haas, and the rest of the Teen Mania team. Bless their families. Thank You for all the people You brought to Battle Cry 2007, including several hundred form Culpeper. Water the seeds that were planted with Your miracle grow so we may experience the spiritual tsunami You spoke of in this pivotal 2007 year. Bless Teen Mania by using Your supernatural highway of communication to send this message around the planet. Thank You Jesus, our LORD and King! Thank You for being our all-in-all. Amen and Hallelujah!

How can you multiply this Battle Cry miracle through the web?

Battle Cry 2007 takes place this weekend at the Nissan Pavilion in Bristow, Virginia. This huge Christian youth rally was originally scheduled to take place at the Baltimore Ravens football stadium, but God miraculously moved it to Virginia. God’s timing is perfect. He is changing the spiritual climate of Virginia on the same weekend Jamestown is hosting huge celebrations to commemorate America’s 400th Anniversary. It’s also Mother’s Day weekend. Be ready for the spiritual fireworks. For details about this event, visit the Link of the Day.

Dewey McDonnell is one of my dearest friends. He has been sold out for Jesus for about ten years and he’s been one of the most loyal participants with our Pray Culpeper team. Thanks to his faithfulness, about 800 people from Culpeper and surrounding counties are going to Battle Cry this weekend. Dewey has a call on his life to unite the youth and youth leaders, not only for Culpeper, but for all of Virginia.

In the Spring of 2006, Dewey invested $2,000 into God’s Kingdom by buying 40 tickets to the Battle Cry event that took place in Philadelphia. He then rounded up more than 30 youth and youth leaders from Culpeper to go with him, including one of his daughters.

Two days after Battle Cry was over, Dewey shared his wonderful testimony about the event and its impact with our Pray Culpeper team in the Culpeper Library. We had about 18 people there, including at least 3 pastors. Dewey told us he felt led to buy significantly more tickets for the Battle Cry 2007 event – perhaps 200. Dewey told us that Battle Cry was offering a 50% sale for those who bought their tickets within the next week or so – $25/ticket instead of the usual $50/ticket.

Pastor Randy Orndorff then suggested that we buy 400 tickets for Battle Cry 2007 because 2007 was the 400th anniversary of Jamestown. Our Pray Culpeper team went back and forth about the optimal number of tickets to buy. Then Pastor Paula spoke up stressing the importance of coming into agreement before we prayed about this incredible opportunity. She brought our entire group into unity before leading us is a powerful prayer asking God to use this opportunity to bless our community, state, and nation through these 400 tickets. Then Dewey stepped out in faith to put up $10,000 to buy 400 tickets. Over the next month or so, about $7,000 came in from various people and churches.

In the Fall of 2006, Dewey went to Mclean Bible Church for a huge Teenmania event. Ron Luce, the Founder of Teenmania and Battle Cry was there. Unexpectedly, God opened a huge door. People who attended this and already had tickets for Battle Cry 2007 were told the number of tickets they had would be doubled for free. God miraculously doubled Dewey’s tickets from 400 to 800. Dewey’s $10,000 investment now had a value of $40,000 = $50/ticket x 800 tickets.

Next came the problem of finding enough people from Culpeper and surrounding communities to go to Battle Cry in May 2007. The LORD, a God of action, went to work by uniting the hearts of youth leaders. Typically, about 3-4 youth leaders were coming to the monthly youth leaders meeting in Culpeper. But on December 1, 2006, nine youth leaders from different church and ministries met to discuss working together to pastor our city. Now most of the 800 Battle tickets are spoken for.

On Sunday April 15, the day before the Virginia Tech shooting tragedy, the Culpeper News had a full page article on the front page of the newspaper titled “The Miracle of the Battle Cry Tickets”. See full article below.

Dewey forwarded a link to that article to Teenmania, which led to him being asked to share this miracle on May 12 at Battle Cry in front of 15,000-25,000 people. Then God opened the door for me to join him to share how prayer evangelism and our Pray Culpeper team played a key role in this miracle.

Prayer Power
Heavenly Father, You are so good and so amazing. Thank You for Dewey McDonnell’s humility, diligence, and faithfulness to You. Thank You for his friendship. Thank You for his active participation with our Pray Culpeper team. Thank You for the many ways you have been blessing his family. We ask You LORD to do something extraordinary this weekend at Battle Cry. Rend the heavens. Rain down Your Holy Spirit to make this a Pentecost weekend where thousands of lives are changed forever to impact the world for Jesus. Praise be to the LORD God Almighty! Amen and Hallelujah!

In what he calls “The Miracle of the BattleCry Tickets,” his order was doubled free of charge. (Staff Photo, Katie Dolac)

Ask Dewey McDonnell or anybody in the weekly Pray Culpeper group about “The Miracle of the BattleCry Tickets” and they’ll be happy to share the story. When McDonnell took a youth group of 40 to a national, two-day Christian youth movement in Philadelphia last year, he had tickets to spare. He had so many leftover tickets that he walked around Philadelphia handing them out to strangers.McDonnell returned to Pray Culpeper with stories and a business proposition.

If they acted immediately, they could pre-order tickets for next year’s BattleCry at half-price – a full year before the May 11 and 12 youth rally at Nissan Pavilion.

McDonnell mulled over the idea of purchasing 200 tickets for $25 each, a savings of $5,000. The group embraced the idea, and prayed intently over the decision at the next Pray Culpeper meeting.

In the midst of prayer, God seemed to be leading them to a much different number.

“We all took a big ‘gulp’ when that ‘400’ came up,” said Pray Culpeper member Virginia Morton.

Without so much as a second thought, McDonnell charged $10,000 to his personal credit card – enough to cover 400 tickets.

“How could I say ‘no’ to something like that,” McDonnell said.
“Talk about an act of faith,” said Randy Peck, a Pray Culpeper regular.

Within weeks churches and individuals chipped in, compensating for about $7,000 of his expense.

Then something incredible happened.
When Dewey went to BattleCry youth leader training he learned promoters rewarded those who pre-ordered tickets in faith with double their original order. This meant McDonnell’s original order for 400 tickets doubled to 800 for free – $40,000-worth of tickets, for only $10,000.

“God’s blessed Dewey for being faithful with this,” Peck said.
McDonnell says about 600 of the 800 are already spoken for, and there is still nearly a month before the BattleCry rally, which serves to inspire teens nationwide to embrace Christian values and denounce pop culture messages that advocate sex and drug use.

Up to 25,000 teens could turn out to watch a two-day festival of rock ‘n’ roll – sans sex and drugs – at Nissan in May.

“It’s not to introduce people to Christ,” McDonnell said. “It’s to take where they are in Christ and move them up.”

Pray Culpeper is sponsoring a Christian youth unity rally to promote BattleCry 2007 at Culpeper Middle School Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Comedian and evangelist Billy Dougoud will host the event with special guests Cody Merrill of Stafford, Mike Guzzardo of Teen Mania and Culpeper’s Rize Up praise band.

“God not only answers prayers, he multiplies them,” Morton said.

Yesterday morning (Monday), Virginia Tech University suffered what authorities are calling the deadliest campus shooting in US history. At least 33 people were killed, and dozens more wounded, after a gunman went on a shooting rampage. All classes were cancelled, and entrances to the campus were sealed.

It’s ironic that at 11 AM yesterday, Virginia Morton and I met with Nancy Palmer to watch the Harvest Evangelism DVD about transformation of schools in Hawaii. We were sowing seeds to positively impact schools across Virginia this year through prayer evangelism.

I first learned about the shooting around 12:20 PM yesterday during our weekly Pray Culpeper meeting. Before our meeting I decided to prepare a short list of specific people to pray for. When I asked for someone to pray for Hagazi Kebede, Ed Lyons began praying. He prayed for God to provide comfort to students and their families following the shooting earlier in the day at Virginia Tech. No one else in our group knew about the shooting yet. But since Ed works with Hagazi and Hagazi’s oldest daughter attends Virginia Tech, Ed knew about the shooting incident.

At 12:30 PM, one of the library staff members poked her head in the door with a message from Nancy asking us to pray for Virginia Tech. As I walked out of our prayer meeting at 1:30 PM, I immediately saw Bob Orr. He told me at least 21 people had been killed.

Needless to say, my planned agenda for the rest of the day was altered. I watched the news with my wife when I got home because we have many friends with children who attend Virginia Tech. Several times during the day, I started to cry. My heart was broken for the families of those who lost loved ones.

I told my wife this is a wake up call. No one has the promise of tomorrow. People are spiritually drowning all around us and we need to be concerned about them. Any day can be our last. Prayer and prayer evangelism is our answer. It’s important for people to know that Jesus is the only way to heaven.

It’s ironic that this spiritual attack of the enemy took place less than two weeks before the rededication of America to God at Virginia Beach. It’s ironic that this attack of the enemy took place the day after the Culpeper News had a full page article on the front page of the newspaper titled “The Miracle of the Battle Cry Tickets”. [http://www.starexponent.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=CSE%2FMGArticle%2FCSE_MGArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1173350749300&path=!features!] It’s ironic that this attack took place before tonight’s Christian youth unity rally at Culpeper Middle School.

Prayer Power
Father, the lives of many families changed forever following yesterday’s tragedy at Virginia Tech. We ask You to comfort those families and bring emotional healing. We ask You to physically heal those who were wounded in the shooting incident. We ask You to bring emotional and spiritual healing to the students, teachers, and administrators at Virginia Tech. We ask You to use this tragedy to have America unite in prayer. We ask You to bring something great out of what seems so terrible, as only You can do. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
